The Hochstrahlbrunnen (or High-jet Fountain) in Schwarzenbergplatz a square in Vienna’s 3rd municipal district is considered an attraction by both locals and guests from Austria and abroad. It is lit daily from 8 p.m. to midnight; therefore an evening visit is highly recommended.
The monumental fountain was taken into operation on October 24th in 1873 in the presence of Emperor Francis Joseph and Mayor Cajetan Felder to celebrate the inauguration of the 1st Vienna Spring Water Main. The fountain, whose functioning is entrusted to Municipal Department 31 – Vienna Water, is operative every year from World Water Day on 22 March until at least the end of October.
