The Beethovenhaus Baden: an authentic place of pilgrimage for everyone on the trail of the musical genius.
Ludwig van Beethoven was a regular visitor to the spa of Baden for its healing waters. The city was the summer resort of Emperor Francis and his family, who enjoyed themselves there immensely, jostling with other members of the aristocracy and middle class, among them the patrons of the great composer. Beethoven stayed in the house on Rathausgasse 10 in the summers of 1821, 1822 and 1823. During this period he wrote extensive parts of the Ninth Symphony.
The Beethovenhaus Baden now houses an innovative new museum all about the person and musical genius Beethoven. You can experience the composer’s life and work in an entirely new and unexpected way. The Biedermeier-style interiors give you a close-up, tangible view of the composer’s life and environment in the city of Baden. Moreover, the presentation enables you to encounter and hear the compositions he wrote in Baden – among them the Ninth Symphony – in an extraordinary new way.
